Before you file for bankruptcy you need to take a credit counseling course that has been approved for Massachusetts bankruptcy filers.
Once you complete the course you will receive a certificate that you must file along with your bankruptcy petition.
You are not required to take the Massachusetts credit counseling if you are on active military duty in a combat zone or you are physically or mental impaired to such an extent that you cannot fulfill the credit counseling requirement.
If you attempt to fulfill the requirement, and cannot before you are compelled to file bankruptcy, you may petition the court to take the course after you file.
